Congratulations on the release of We’re Getting Older! What does the EP mean to you?
This EP is very personal since I wrote about many things I was going through. It was really therapeutic to get my thoughts out while writing the songs. The overall theme of the EP is about how things get better as we get older. Bad things will always happen, but those events don’t have to define us, and there is always time to grow. I feel like there’s this pressure of needing to heal from challenging events overnight, but healing takes a long time, and I want to remind myself and my listeners that no matter how long something takes, it always gets better.

What’s your favorite song off We’re Getting Older?
My favorite is “Believe It When I See It” because I experimented with a new production style and branched out from what a typical Caleb Hearn song sounds like. It’s special to me since it still has emotional lyrics but has a higher tempo than the other songs on the EP.

What’s something you learned during the making of the EP?
It taught me a lot about songwriting and how no single writing process will lead to successful songs. Before this EP, I put a lot of pressure on myself to be a great songwriter and tried hard to find new and creative ways to say things. However, after listening to my favorite songs, I learned that many writers I admire find simple ways to say something people feel. So, I did my best to put less pressure on how my writing and just write with the goal of being honest and relatable rather than super creative.

What is one artist or band that you haven’t seen in concert, that you hope to see someday?
John Mayer. Of course, he is an incredibly talented musician, and I have heard fantastic things about his shows. However, he also writes unique songs, and I think he's a lyrical genius because he can write about such simple concepts, but make them sound interesting and relatable.

We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
If I’m ever feeling bad, I try to go to a new location I’ve never been to before and just start exploring. I find that when I physically go to a new place and experience new surroundings, I begin to focus on where I am rather than what I’m feeling. This helps give me a thrill and gets my mind off whatever I am dealing with.

Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Even though the EP is about a lot of heartbreak and negative experiences, I want everyone who listens to the EP to walk away feeling hopeful. I hope listeners realize it is okay not to be okay because everything will get better eventually.
